Intensive Language Training |
|
Lena
Kozlova’s sister, Anna, is a freshman here at York College, and I am
taking Russian language lessons from her. Russian is the cultural and
business language of Kremenchuk. I have a tutor lined up to continue to
teach me Russian when I arrive in Kremenchuk. I will take lessons for at
least an additional two years. |

| All three churches
have local native ministers working with them, trained by a small school of
preaching of Heritage Christian University of Florence, Alabama. I do not
want to come in and become “the preacher,” but rather to be an active
supporter of the Body. One of the requests of one of the leaders of the
Central church said, “we need you to come and help us to grow up in
Christ.” Christians are baptizing several, but their retention is not
good. We hope to work with this. |

Teach Bible in Local Schools |
| This door has
become incredibly wide open to us in the last couple of years. We have an
open invitation to come and teach in School #11 to all grades of 1st
through 12th grade. This has happened because of our teaching in
this school with aid of a Christian English teacher, Natalie. We have given
Bible lessons, free Bibles from Eastern European Missions and assistance in
up keep of her classroom. The gratitude the school feels for these things
has opened so many doors for us to step through for Christ. |

| When I was there
two years ago, we had more Bible studies than we could conduct. There are
people literally saying, “When you are done studying with him/her, will you
please study with me?” |

Prison Ministry for 14-18 year old boys
|
| I was introduced to
this work, kind of by accident, when I was there. We found out that a local
minister, Gregory, had started working with this prison in 1998. There are
350 boys and Gregory has a class he teaches of 50 to 60 boys 3 times a
week. These boys are literally starving to death, physically and
spiritually. They are very open to hearing the message of Jesus. When we
went in, we were able to preach the Word and take enough bread to feed each
boy in the class, Ľ loaf of bread. God has truly opened up a door for us to
serve in this prison. |
